609 Kumpf Drive, Waterloo
609 Kumpf Drive was originally single-tenanted and used as a metal stamping facility for the automotive industry. Following the Great Financial Crisis, the tenant claimed bankruptcy and Colonia Treuhand saw an opportunity to convert the building to office use, an approach successfully executed several times prior. A guiding principle of the conversion was to incorporate existing structural elements from the original industrial building to create one-of-a-kind office space. A second floor was added, doubling the leasable area. The open-to-below gangway design spans the length of the building and features a large skylight shaft that allows daylight to brighten up the wide corridors and polished concrete floors, complemented with artwork by Canadian artist Katharine Harvey. Each suite features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and elevators were installed at both ends of the building. 609 Kumpf Drive is connected to a seven-storey parking garage, which serves the entirety of Waterloo Innovation Park, in addition to ample surface parking.
